Welcome to our DECEMBER 2011 newsletter - aimed at giving you a glimpse into what just one of our clients is doing with Yellow Pencil to sharpen their brand right now. We've chosen to feature one client or project per month that we think is exciting, creative, inspirational or just simply interesting and we hope you do too.

Our most uplifting projects

Brand is built on emotion, value and pride - and if ever there was an organisation that typifies all of those attributes and more, it's the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust. Since 1989, the Trust has administered a professional air rescue and air ambulance service supported by highly trained paramedics, rescue teams and ground crew for the treatment and recovery of people needing urgent medical care and attention.

Since that time thousands of people throughout Canterbury and the West Coast have been sucessfully flown from accident sites and hospitals to critical care facilities by three rescue services : The Westpac Rescue Helicopter, the Solid Energy Rescue Helicopter (based in Greymouth) and the New Zealand Flying Doctor Service.

Like so many other worthwhile charities, it's hard to believe that in a modern, industrialised society where the safety of it's citizens is of paramount concern, that such an important service as this still has to rely on the bulk of it's funding to come from business sponsorships and community support.

We're happy and extremely proud to have been one of those businesses for the past decade.

As a major sponsor of the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust, Yellow Pencil provides our skills and services to sharpen all of the Trust's marketing, communication, promotional, educational and fundraising activities and create a professional brand strategy that not only works hard for the Trust, but also provides a leverage platform for other sponsors.

This year we also are proud to have been involved in creating the Trust's major fundraising direct mail appeal which raised a staggering $480,000 !

Yellow Pencil manage the Trust's website at www.airrescue.co.nz and write and produce the Trust's magazine 'Airwaves' (right) which is now up to Issue 12.

After all, for a team that watches over us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year - it's the least we can do !

BTW - Summer is a VERY busy period for the air rescue services. Have a great holiday - but let's be careful out there !

Sharp thinking
QR Codes
It is estimated that by the end of 2013, more people globally will be accessing websites via Mobile devices such as smart phones and iPads than will be by desktop PC.
Now that Smartphones have 'come of age', QR Codes are popping up everywhere, appearing on everything from advertising to outdoor signage and packaging. The technology allows customers to simply scan the 'blockcode' with a Mobile phone which then directly accesses the coded website address.
This opens up all manner of marketing opportunities (think competitions, product up-sell, store hours, online booking etc, etc ) and is something Yellow Pencil are applying to a number of clients online strategies for 2012.

Holidays - At last !
Yellow Pencil are heading off for some serious rest and reflection, this Friday 23rd December at 12 noon. We'll be back at work, sharper than ever, on Monday 9th January 2012.

Thanks for all your support and encouragement this year - we really appreciate it. Have a great festive season and keep safe.
